Do I need prior martial arts experience to join SJJA?

No prior experience is required! SJJA Sydney offers beginner-friendly classes that teach the fundamentals of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Our instructors will guide you step by step, ensuring you feel comfortable and confident as you learn.

What should I bring for my first class?

For your first class, you should wear comfortable workout clothes (like a t-shirt and shorts). If you’re trying out a Gi class, we can provide a Gi (the traditional BJJ uniform) for you to borrow. Don’t forget a water bottle to stay hydrated!

How often should I train as a beginner?

We recommend starting with 2-3 classes per week to allow your body to adjust and give you time to absorb the techniques. As you progress, you can increase the frequency of your training based on your goals and availability.

Is BJJ suitable for kids?

Absolutely! SJJA offers dedicated kids’ classes that are fun, safe, and focused on building confidence, discipline, and coordination. Children as young as four can start learning Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu in a supportive environment.
